GUC and GIU Expand African Engagement Through Scholarships and Academic Partnerships
April 15, 2026

In line with their shared commitment to advancing higher education and strengthening ties across the African continent, the German University in Cairo (GUC) and the German International University (GIU) in the New Administrative Capital continue to expand their academic outreach through strategic partnerships and scholarship initiatives.

As part of these efforts, GUC recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Rwanda, headed by the Minister of Education. The visit emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration in higher education and supporting the development of future leaders across Africa.

Discussions during the visit, attended by Eng. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Yasser Hegazy, President of GUC, focused on enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as engineering and food technology, as well as exploring opportunities for collaboration across different educational stages.

In parallel with these partnerships, GUC and GIU have jointly taken significant steps to support African students through dedicated scholarship programs. Under the “East Africa Scholarship of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Ashraf Mansour,” a total of 37 students from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Sudan have joined the academic community of both universities.

The scholarship provides full coverage of tuition fees in addition to living expenses throughout the duration of study, reflecting a strong commitment to accessibility and academic excellence.

Students have been distributed across a wide range of disciplines. At GUC, students enrolled in programs including Information Engineering and Technology, Engineering and Materials Science, Pharmacy and Biotechnology, Management Technology, Applied Sciences and Arts, and Law and Legal Studies. Meanwhile, at GIU, students joined the faculties of Engineering, Informatics and Computer Science, Business Administration, and Physical Therapy.

Further reinforcing this commitment, GUC has also announced the allocation of 55 scholarships for students from various African countries, highlighting the growing role of both GUC and GIU as regional hubs for education, innovation, and capacity building.

Prof. Ashraf Mansour emphasized that these initiatives represent a long-term vision centered on investing in human capital and strengthening educational bridges across Africa. He highlighted the importance of equipping students with both academic knowledge and practical skills to drive sustainable development.
